Hello all, On Tuesday, Gerard moved back to the spinal unit at 3 North, (now in room 13). Nothing to be worried about. There needs to be some adjustments done with his pacer and ventilator and since the team that does that is at the Austin, that’s where he needs to be.

He is the first person who has had the diaphragmatic pacer inserted within a year of injury. (most have been done 3 -4 years after the Spinal Cord has been damaged) This has meant that his diaphragm is still in pretty good shape after only a short break from doing anything, so it has built up strength rather more rapidly than expected. He has been getting too much oxygen so has had a break from the pacer over the long weekend. So he is a work in progress J and the VRSS team are breaking new ground. We are unsure as to how long he will remain at the Austin.. I guess until it is all sorted. I’ll let you know when he moves again. Visiting Hours at the Austin are from 11 am until 8pm. However, the morning routine is never finished much before 12.30 pm. Since there have been some struggles with the Doodle Calendar, I’m set up a Google Calendar. Hopefully this one is easier.
