A bit of pleasing news tonight. Firstly Sue told me that Gerard was this afternoon moved out of ICU and into the Austin Spinal Unit which will be his spot for a while to come. He had a pacemaker put in place yesterday to keep his heart at a constant level – apparently it was running a little slow at times. Gerard adjusted to it well and they decided that he was good enough to move out this afternoon. The grin on Sue’s face is just that little bit wider tonight. His speech has been put on hold for just a short while as after a miraculous beginning earlier this week he had a bit of trouble following up on day 2. They will wait to try again early next week on the ward and hope to have him settled and on the smaller machine which will apparently make it easier for the speech therapist to open/close the collar.
